Nigerians Help SA Boy Who Walked 8 Hours Home After Losing Bus Ticket

In a heartwarming story, Nigerians came to the aid of an 11-year-old South African boy, Lifalethu Mbasana, who had to walk eight hours home after losing his bus ticket. Golden Arrow Bus Services, facing public outcry, has since offered Lifalethu free rides and suspended the bus driver involved.

Lifalethu, a student in Simon's Town, lost his bus card and was forced to walk from Muizenberg to Khayelitsha. His siblings, who had their tickets, were allowed on the bus. Despite attempts to pay for his ride, the driver refused, leaving him stranded.

The young boy walked for hours, even sleeping under a bridge for safety. Eventually, a group of Nigerians offered him a ride to Mitchells Plain. From there, he found his way home with the help of a kind stranger and local police

Golden Arrow acknowledged the breach of their policy to help uniformed scholars who lose their bus cards. The company suspended the driver and offered Lifalethu free rides. His mother, Siba Mbasana, expressed her dissatisfaction and called for stricter measures.

The incident has sparked discussions on public transport safety and the need for better measures to protect children. Joy Maimela, chair of the parliamentary portfolio committee on basic education, emphasized the importance of compassion and safety for young passengers.

Golden Arrow urged parents to ensure their children can contact them in emergencies, reiterating their commitment to student safety.
